Who taught us to say Merry Christmas? Was it the Holy Spirit? I don’t think so.

“Christmas” is a shortened form of “Christ’s mass”. 

It is derived from the Middle English Cristemasse, which is from Old English Crīstesmæsse, a phrase first recorded in 1038 followed by the word Cristes-messe in 1131.

Crīst (genitive Crīstes) is from Greek Khrīstos (Χριστός), a translation of Hebrew Māšîaḥ (מָשִׁיחַ), “Messiah”, meaning “anointed”; and mæsse is from Latin missa, the celebration of the Eucharist.

I was standing in front of the grocery store waiting for my husband to pick me up yesterday and as usual I had one of my Jesus hats on. (I love to proclaim His name!)

As often happens someone will see the hat and tell me they like it, and some will even stop for a few moments and talk. Yesterday it was an 80 year old man who was entering the store. “I like your hat” he said, and that started the conversation.
