Legalism is a False Doctrine

FTA: Now, it is true that anyone trying to establish their own righteousness legitimately, but without Christ, is a legalist. However, this has become a negative term that is used in the wrong context. It is more accurate for us to apply the term “hypocrite” to a hypocrite rather than create a new one like “legalist” to the ones that Jesus rebuked. Hoards of “Christian” people have taken the word “legalism” and sprinted with it to justify their negative opinion of someone who upholds “rules” of scripture that the sprinter feels they can outright ignore. This has created a doctrine from man, not a doctrine from God, which is exactly what the hypocrites did. However, today’s hypocrisy in using the legalism belief has led many away from the fear of God and into a fear of adhering to law. Just stop and think for a moment, the Holy Bible is the Word of God containing the commandments of God to which we must adhere. Whether old or new, the law itself has not been eradicated.

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. ~Matthew 5:18 KJV

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ~Galatians 5:14 KJV
